This year I’ve been filling you in one my favourites every two months, instead of on a monthly schedule. And I think it’s been working well. But, as I’m sure you’re expecting, the end of December is well and truly reserved for my Best of 2017 posts. When pairing this with the fact that I’m going to be away most of December, with no way of trying new and exciting things, I decided it was worth touching on a few loves I’ve uncovered and rediscovered this month instead. Even though I did find myself almost adding my favourites from September & October all over again to this one, I’ve been testing plenty of new things this month. Working overtime to get content together for when I’m away. But, as always, a couple of must-haves emerged from the pack.
Surprising absolutely no-one, I’ve been reaching for this base a lot lately. It would seem I’ve found yet another base favourite that’s lightweight, easy to apply and provides me with just enough coverage. I’ve been preferring to just pat it into the skin with my fingers in the morning and find it looks awesome all day long, as long as I set it down with powder. I can definitely see what all the hype is about now.
Definitely one of the highlights of the month was getting the chance to meet and chat with Kerry Cole, the Global Style Director for Becca. And it was awesome to speak to her about my long-time fave, the under eye corrector. She said it was the third best-seller from their range! My sleeping pattern has been a little all over the place lately so this creamy, covering wonder product has been super helpful. Again, it works beautifully patted in with a finger so this paired with the CC cream with a bit of concealer over the top has been a killer combo.
This has been a great year for me and bronzers, I’ve found plenty of favourites that don’t look overpowering and ridiculous on my pale skin. The latest love is this Cover FX one I picked up recently. It’s actually one of the lightest shades in my collection, which means it’s almost impossible for me to go overboard. It just adds plenty of definition without any of the worrying about whether it’ll be too warm. Yet again, Cover FX’s products have impressed me and have left me wanting to try even more.
Have I reached for anything else all month? The answer is pretty much no. I raved about this earlier in the month and my love is still going strong – shade wise, this is coming close to my favourite palette I’ve ever tried. And the formula has really impressed, too. It really does everything I want in a palette and my favourite feature is how it’s a great mix of mattes and shimmers. For a brand that I hadn’t tried previously, I’m so incredibly impressed. In fact, I love it so much that I might just be organising a giveaway towards the end of the year… Keep an eye out!
When it comes to budget brow pencils, I can just never seem to make them work for me quite as well as my higher-end favourites. But I’ve been trying out this one from ELF that had me intrigued and it’s actually been a hit! The nib is a little larger than I’m used to but found it was incredibly easy to fill in my brows, adding definition and shape to them and brushing out with the spoolie so it looks perfectly natural. The shade, Taupe, isn’t too warm, like many budget brow products are, which is another huge plus. I did find the nib was a little too thick to really define the tail of my brow but for everything else, I’m a huge fan and will continue reaching for this one.
I’ve been switching up my mascara routine quite a bit lately, testing things out to see which one will make the cut when I go overseas. And particularly towards the beginning of the month, this Marc Jacobs beauty was in top spot for a dramatic, voluminous look. As it’s dried out a little more, I continue to fall further in love with this mascara. It’s that perfect amount of clumpiness, adding volume and length and drama to my lashes and I have been loving it when I’ve gone a little more glam with my makeup. The hourglass wand does a great job of really coating every lash, as long as I clear up the excess on the brush before applying.
No surprises that there’s a mauve lip in yet another monthly favourites. I’ve been so excited for the Crushed Lip Colour launch and it’s definitely met expectations. Easy to apply, sheer but buildable lipsticks will always be my most-reached-for formulas, especially when I’m in a rush. Lilac is such a gorgeous shade, a slightly pinky mauve with a healthy sheen to it. I’m in love. Definitely make sure to check out this new launch from Bobbi.
Only the one skincare favourite this month. I’ve been all about the quick and easy cleanse, as soon as I get home from work. And cleansing oil is, of course, the best option for this. Particularly when it’s a no-fuss, super effective product like Precleanse. Two pumps does an awesome job of getting rid of every last bit of makeup (even waterproof mascara) and leaves my skin feeling soft and happy. It’s a pricey option, sure, but Dermalogica is one of those brands that just continues deliver awesome formulas.
