Four Lightweight, Glowy, Summer-Appropriate Bases

Four Lightweight, Glowy, Summer-Appropriate Bases - Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser, IT Cosmetics CC Cream, Models Prefer Healthy Glow All-In-One BB Cream

In my experience, every season requires a bit of a makeup mix-up. And when the weather begins to heat up, as we head into summer, I love embracing dewy base makeup. For me, a bit of glowy finish translates to healthy skin. And who doesn’t want that? Even though I’m about to head into the European winter for a month, there have been four favourites that have come in handy already, with this warm weather. And I’m sure they’ll continue to be useful when I come back into the full-blown Australian summer.

They’re lightweight and comfortable on the skin, they add just enough coverage and well, for me they’re pretty much perfect for this warmer weather.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream

AVAILABLE FROM: Mecca, Bare MineralsSephora (US), Ulta, Look Fantastic.

We all know that this and the following recommendation are my two holy grail bases. They both work year round, for me. But I find myself gravitating to their easy application and glowy finish a lot more in the summer months. The Complexion Rescue is so easy to blend, I get the best results with a big fluffy brush, and in no time my complexion is looking even, glowy and like my skin but better. I set it down with a bit of powder and it lasts beautifully all day on my skin. With only minimal wear on my chin area. This will always be one of my top recommendations for those who want a little more coverage than your every day tinted moisturiser but still want that comfortable, lightweight feeling on the skin.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

AVAILABLE FROM: Mecca, NARS, Sephora (US), Ulta,

My long-term relationship with this base is well documented here on TBC but I’m sure that’s the case with most people when they find pretty much their perfect base. Applied with a big fluffy foundation brush, this adds plenty of coverage for everyday wear, and provides a healthy glow to the skin. For those with oilier skin, this can still a great option! As long as you remember to pair it with a mattifying primer. I like to set it down with a loose powder and find that this works beautifully to keep it glowy but not oily throughout the day. If I’m in a rush or my skin’s throwing a tantrum, I always reach for this because I know that it’ll never let me down.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream

AVAILABLE FROM: Sephora (AU), IT Cosmetics, Sephora (US), Ulta, Beautylish, Selfridges.

Everyone had told me that I needed to try this base, so I’d placed some fairly high expectations on this one when I finally added it to my collection. And so far, I’ve been really impressed. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately, experimenting with application methods (fingers works best, so far) and it performs really beautifully. It’s effortless to blend in, making it look like your skin but much better. And it lasts fairly well, too. It gathers a little around my nose and chin after a couple of hours, I find. But it’s nothing that can’t be fixed by taking the time to set down those areas. What I really love is just how comfortable it feels on the skin – it’s as if I’m not wearing any base makeup when I wear this. It’s early days but I think this could be a hit.

Models Prefer All-In-One BB Cream

The budget-friendly one of the bunch, a rediscovery of an old favourite from ages ago when I was still getting into makeup. I wasn’t sure if it’d still work for me after all this time. But I was pleasantly surprised. It’s quite a thick formula, best worked into the skin with your fingers to warm it up a little. But it adds just enough coverage for me if I’m running errands or can’t be bothered with a full face. It adds a gorgeous dewy glow to the skin and again, it’s super lightweight on the skin so doesn’t feel too overbearing. If all you’re after is something to even out skin tone a little and add a bit of glow, why not check out this $13 option?

What’s your favourite summer-appropriate base?
