I think a lot of beauty junkies would agree with me that there’s something special about MAC. The long-standing favourite of makeup lovers has more cult favourites than I can even count and every time I head in store, I find something new. Although my MAC collection is fairly modest, the bits that I do own are fiercely loved. There have always been a million and one lipsticks from the MAC range sitting on my wishlist. But with every new release, I find new ones to get me excited.
A couple of months ago, there were two very exciting launches and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. Since then, I’ve been reaching for the new additions quite a bit and wanted to report back.
From the very first sneak peeks of the Fruity Juicy collection, I knew that it would have to be yet another limited edition MAC lipstick in my collection. The Fruity Juicy packaging is probably one of my favourite designs from the brand, so I couldn’t resist. And the bright, glossy pink of the line-up was the easy choice, for me. Love at First Bite is an Amplified finish. A high-pigment, creamy formula with a hint of shine to it. The slightly glossy finish pairs beautifully with the bright, juicy pink shade and I can tell you right now that this will be a favourite come summertime, as a finishing touch to a minimal makeup look.
The formula is great, easy to apply and lasts really well on the lips. I find that it can pick up a little on dry patches because the formula is a little slippier but it’s nothing a bit of prep can’t fix. Even though, in the past, I’ve been guilty of ignoring some of my prized LE MAC lipsticks, this one will definitely be seeing plenty of use when I feel like a feminine, fresh bright pink.
When I heard the news that Nikkia was collaborating with MAC to create her own lipstick shades, I was literally filled with happiness. Not only did I totally trust that Nikkia would come up with an awesome, universally flattering shade but Nikkia’s also a great friend of mine so I was so happy to see her get the recognition that she truly deserves. Once the swatches started emerging of the MAC x Nikkia Joy shade, I was excited but a little apprehensive. I normally don’t wear peachy-nudes much so wasn’t sure what I’d think. But when I finally got the chance to try it for myself, I understood what Nikkia meant when she said this could work for just about anyone. It’s a warm nude with a healthy dose of peach to it. And although that’s normally out of my comfort zone, I’ve come to really love it.
The Matte formula is beautiful too. Not uncomfortable or drying and it doesn’t really pick up dry patches or imperfections on the lips. Bringing this beauty into my lipstick collection gave me the chance to try something I wouldn’t normally go for but I’m definitely digging it. There’s something about these peachier nudes that make me feel a little more sophisticated. Make sure to head in store and swatch this while it’s still available.
To accompany the Nikkia Joy lipstick, I also got the chance to try the Boldly Bare lip pencil. A great complementary option for Nikkia’s lipstick. I’d heard plenty of ramblings about how awesome MAC’s lip pencils are so I was interested to try for myself. The colour, again, is quite peachy – more than I’d normally go for. But it works beautifully as a base for a whole range of shades. I’ve been using this with regular nudes and even to tone down pinkier shades. The texture is fairly standard for a lip pencil but I’ve found it’s been a great option when I really want to define my lip shape.
