Here in Australia, the weather has been fairly chilly for a while now. We’re finally seeing the end of winter on the horizon but in the mean time, my skin has most definitely taken notice of the cold. It’s been feeling a little drier and it’s definitely looking a little lackluster. And it probably doesn’t help that I’ve been dealing with the flu for at least a couple of weeks now, too. Inevitably, my routine needed a bit of a switch up to turn up the glowiness.
Of course, that all starts with base products. Perfecting a glowy, comfortable base has been the priority for the last couple of months and with these beauties in my arsenal, it’s been a breeze.
AVAILABLE FROM: Mecca Maxima.
When my skin is looking seriously blah, adding an illuminating primer to the mix is always my first move. And this Mecca Max one has really impressed me lately. Of the Mecca Max products I’ve tried so far, this one’s the standout. It adds plenty of luminosity to the skin without looking glittery and preps the skin beautifully for whatever base I follow it with. I’ve heard awesome things about the mattifying primer in this lineup, too, but might need to save that for when my skin’s a little more on the oily side.
I’ve been raving about this foundation quite a bit over the last little while because really, it’s been a while since I’ve been this in love with a drugstore base. Shade-wise, this rules. But beyond that, the finish is perfect for the winter months – matte but it never looks drying or blah on the skin. I’ve been blending this in with a BeautyBlender to achieve a medium coverage and what I love most is that once I’ve set it down, it looks great all day long. Definitely check this one out if you’re on the oilier side of the skin spectrum.
Year-round, the NARS TM is one of my favourite bases to reach for so I definitely haven’t forgotten about this one in this colder weather. When my skin is feeling particularly dry and I need something quick, easy and effective, I throw a little bit of this on. I tend to love wearing this on lazy days where I don’t really need a huge amount of coverage. It brings plenty of dewiness to my complexion and never lets me down when it comes to wear time, as long as I remember to set down my t-zone with a powder.
Another that I’ve mentioned a couple of times in these winter months. This has been another favourite for mornings where I’m running late and need something that works quickly to give me great coverage and a matte finish. I swipe this onto my cheeks, chin and forehead and blend it in with a damp Beauty Blender then go over any spots that need a little more coverage and I’m ready to go. You can’t really beat foundation sticks for the convenience factor, which is why this is becoming a hot contender for the foundation I bring with me to Europe.
I’m always striving for a bright under-eye, mostly to try and hide my sleep deprivation. And this under eye brightener has been a long time love. It’s the same awesome formula as the UD concealer but in a pink-toned hue that works beautifully on my pale skin to brighten things up. I’ve been using this under my concealer on days where I really need help looking like I slept the night before. It even works alone on my pale skin on days when I don’t need a huge amount of coverage, just a bit of a helping hand to even out the area.
A new addition to my concealer line-up and initially, I wasn’t sure what to think. It claimed to be full coverage, long wearing and lightweight. And once I got the application right, I fell in love. The consistency of this concealer is quite thick so it makes it a little hard to get the product onto the skin with the doe-foot applicator. Blended in with a BeautyBlender though, it’s totally worth the initial effort. It blends out seamlessly, looking like skin and providing full coverage. It’s become a major favourite in no time at all, definitely one of the best heavy-duty options I’ve come across. If you try this one in store, and get a little taken aback by the applicator, give it the benefit of the doubt because the product is seriously awesome.
