June was definitely a weird month – after the craziness on the site in May, I had a lot of craziness in real life through June (including a birthday and a trip to Sydney!) so I just wasn’t getting as much time as I would’ve liked for the site. But now, as we enter July, I’m refreshed and revitalised and can’t wait to get regular content going once again. Anyway, here’s a look at the products that I’ve been loving lately.
This Maybelline base has been hanging out in my drawers for about six months and although I liked it from the first try, lately I’ve been reaching for it constantly. To begin with, the shade match is about the best that I’ve found in the drugstore for me which is a huge win. But the formula is also worth raving about. It has just enough coverage for my everyday makeup and lasts beautifully all day long. The finish is perfect for this cooler weather so this has been my go-to for a little while now. It’s quickly becoming one of my favourite budget bases on the market.
I was dealing with a bit of a skin flare-up at the end of May and this creamy concealer was my life-saver when it came to covering the spots appearing on my chin and jawline. The formula is thick but blends in beautifully to the skin. And the pigmentation really packs a punch. I only need the tiniest bit to cover a spot and it does a great job at correcting any redness, too. It’s no wonder that I’ve been hearing great things about this formula for years now.
Another monthly favourites post, another highlighter love. Lately, I’ve been reaching for this one a lot because the shade is just beaaautiful on my skin tone. Pearlescent, a little bit golden and very glowy. The formla is just as lovely as some of my higher end formulas so I’ve been very impressed with this one. It’s also great to see a product with such an extensive shade range for a budget price.
I’ve been all about a neutral, matte eye lately and of course, it doesn’t get much better than a palette called the ‘Ultimate Naked Basics’. This one’s full of pretty much any shade I’d need to put together a matte eye look, with plenty of options depending on how intense or smokey I’d like it to be. And the formula is absolutely lovely. It’s super blendable and easy to work with. Urban Decay definitely know how to put together a beautiful eyeshadow palette.
Just another Maybelline mascara favourite. There’s something about their range that just works for me. The latest addition to the line-up has been just as impressive. Plenty of volume, lots of lengthening and it holds a decent curl throughout the day. The wand can be a little messy on the lash line if you’re not careful but nevertheless, I’ve been reaching for this one pretty much every day.
The winter weather has well and truly taken it’s toll on my lips so I’ve been keeping a lip balm within reaching distance at all times. This simple, acai berry option has been my top pick, however, for during the day. The formula feels incredibly hydrating on the lips without feeling heavy and also works as a great base for lip products. No surprises that this has been the last step of my skincare routine each morning.
AVAILABLE FROM: Glossier.
I picked this up in my Shopandbox haul last month and since then, I’ve been reaching for this most nights after already removing my makeup. The texture is definitely different to any other cleanser I’ve tried but I have been loving this one. It leaves my skin feeling subtly hydrated and super fresh – exactly what I’m after at night time. This first foray into Glossier skincare has definitely been a success.
Another rave about this exfoliating powder-to-paste wonder product. As I already mentioned, my skin cracked a bit of a hissy fit towards the end of May and using this religiously every couple of days made a huge difference. Not only to the overall texture of my skin but also to the lifespan of the spots on my chin and jawline. If you struggle with texture or angry spots, definitely add this to your wishlist.
As I try to make the most of my nail polish collection, I’ve been trying to reach for a different shade every time I paint my nails. But that plan went out the window when I put reached for this shade in early May. Since then, I’ve worn this shade four times now. To the extent that I’d fully painted my nails with another shade, changed my mind, and reapplied this. It’s such a classy, winter-appropriate shade and the formula is incredible, as is always the case with Essie. It’s from a previous Winter collection but if you spot it in stores, snap. it. up.
