I’m sure I’m not the only person thinking that this year is just flying by. Somehow we find ourselves in July when I feel like my mind is still somewhere around mid-March. But I still thought it was worth taking a mid-year look at the brands that have impressed me so far this year. After half a year of new releases, new discoveries and a couple of old favourites re-establishing themselves, it’s no surprise that I’ve got a couple of stand out favourites rising to the top.
I’d always been interested in trying out more from Pixi, after seeing it online for so many years. And for the last six months, I’ve been very lucky to try a bunch of things out from the brand. And it’s definitely lived up to expectations. Their makeup is simple, practical and delivers beautiful results and their skincare? That’s a whole other blog post waiting to be written. I’m in love with just about everything I’ve tried from the brand so far and it’s awesome to see them ramping up the new releases and bringing out a bunch of trendy bits and pieces.
My top picks from the skincare range include Pixi’s Glow Tonic – obviously. And for makeup, the Pixi x ItsJudyTime Eyeshadow Palette* is well worth checking out, as well as the Pixi Glow-y Powders*
. I’m also a huge fan of the teeny Pixi Lower Lash Mascara*.
Now I haven’t tried as much out from the Jouer line-up but you better believe I’ve been admiring their newer releases from afar, too. The two bits I’ve tried from the range – their highlighters and liquid lipsticks – have left me wanting to try a lot more. Everything from the brand looks positively dreamy and it would seem that they’re really stepping up their game with releasing more products and repromoting a couple of old favourites. Next on my list? Those beautiful lip glosses.
The Jouer Highlighters in Rose Quartz and Citrine are so soft when swatched that they feel like a cream and provide a stunning sheen to the cheekbones. And the Jouer Longwear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick in Tawny Rose is right up there with my favourite matte liquid lipstick formulas.
I’ve had Smashbox products in my collection since the very beginning of my obsession. In fact, my first high-end eyeshadow palette was from Smashbox and it’s still sitting in my drawers, so well loved that the lid is no longer attached. But this year I’ve been branching out and trying a bunch of their products and I have been very impressed. They have been bringing out new release after new release this year, each more beautiful than the last.
It’s hard to know where to even start with the range because there is just so much to try. But definitely make sure to try the primer range, particularly the Smashbox Light Photo Finish Primer*. I also love the new Smashbox Covershot Eyeshadow Palettes* – particularly Ablaze and Golden Hour – and the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara* really impressed. The Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks* are worth a look too!
This has been the most recent love affair of these four. There’s been a bit of an influx of products into my collection over the last couple of months. But my wishlist is getting a little out of control. The whole range looks absolutely dreamy and it would seem that a lot of people don’t know a lot about the brand beyond their to-die-for Custom Enhancer Drops line-up. But those beauties and everything else I’ve tried from the brand has blown me away. Any brand that’s all about perfecting your complexion is a brand that I can get behind.
The Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are worth every bit of hype (particularly Celestial & Moonlight* for pale skin tones), with the Cover FX Perfect Light Highlighting Powder* being their perfect complement. And the soon-to-be-released Cover FX Blurring Primer* has got me totally converted.
