The Two Bases That Never Let Me Down

The Two Bases That Never Let Me Down - Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue & NARS Tinted MoisturiserWhen I first started loving makeup, I owned three foundations. They were religiously on rotation and I had no interest in expanding the group. But somehow, a couple of years later, my base drawer is overflowing. There’s always a new, exciting base product to try and I always give in to the hype. But there are two bases that just never get it wrong. For me, they’ll always be repurchased and will always have pride of place in my foundation collection. Here’s a closer look at the two bases that never let me down.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

I went a while without this base in my arsenal but after repurchasing a little while ago, I am so glad it’s back in my life. The Complexion Rescue is referred to as a tinted hydrating gel cream which just about covers it. When applied to the skin, it feels cooling, hydrating and super lightweight. It blends in really easily to the skin and imparts a beautiful dewy glow. I like to set it down with powder as I find it improves the wear but it still leaves the skin looking refreshed and healthy. The coverage is fairly light, to begin with, but I normally build it up to a light-medium coverage for everyday wear.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

I’m beginning to lose count of how many times I’ve praised this one here on TBC but here we are again. Everyone’s always talking about Sheer Glow while I’m over here telling you that if you’re into sheer but buildable tinted moisturisers, this is a must-try. What I love about this base is that even though it’s glowy and super lightweight, it wears beautifully on my skin when set down with powder and can always last me through a full day at work. It’s one of those bases that actually looks better after being on the face for a couple of hours. This tube has also lasted me forever and consistently finds it’s way into my makeup bag when I’m travelling because it’s so easy to apply with a big fluffy foundation brush.

There’s actually a lot of comparisons that can be drawn between the two. Lightweight, comfortable, not heavy on the coverage and perfect for everyday wear. But hey, when you find something that works, you stick to it. They also both work perfectly with my favourite Models Prefer Professional Airbrush Brush, too. I tend to reach for the Bare Minerals option a little more in the winter time when my skin is a little drier but they’re both year ’round loves for me.

My combination skin (oily in the t-zone, normal everywhere else) gets along famously with both of these so I can definitely recommend giving them a go if your skin type is similar to mine. Obsessions come and go but these two bases? I reckon they’ll be forever.
