Everyone’s skin is different and we’re all dealing with our own personal set of skin concerns (unless you’re very lucky). For me, a lot of my routine is aimed towards clarifying, brightening and keeping texture at bay. I find as I’ve gotten older, my hormonal breakouts are leaving behind more texture than before so luckily, I’ve got a full arsenal of products that help me remedy the problem.
There’s three main products that are always on rotation to keep my skin feeling smooth and looking bright. Unsurprisingly, each of them have acidic ingredients in them. I find my skin responds really well to a bit of chemical exfoliation to keep breakouts and texture to a minimum. Want to learn more about chemical exfoliation? Make sure to check out my in-depth guide. Anyway, on to the three products that help me achieve smoother skin. Two are ‘every once in a while’ treatments and the other is my mainstay favourite in my routine for clearing up my skin.
I’ve been reaching for this more and more lately, it would seem. I’ve been using it once or twice a week when I get out of the shower and I instantly see results. This heavy-duty powder exfoliant turns into a paste when you add water. I simply spread it all over my face and wash it off with a face washer and my skin instantly looks glowy. But what’s really incredible is how soft and smooth my skin feels. Straight away, patches of texture are no more and any active breakouts are less aggravated and dry. I think this’ll be a long-term love for me, it preps the skin beautifully for makeup and really does make such a difference to patches of texture.
Of course, keeping an acid toner on rotation is incredibly important, too. It’s less of an instantaneous response compared to the other two I’m mentioning but it’s just as useful. I slot this in after cleansing and before my hydrating toner and anyone who uses an acid toner already knows the difference a product like this can make after a few weeks of use. What I love about Glow Tonic particularly is how gentle it is on the skin while still being effective. This is a must-have step in your routine if you suffer from breakouts, texture or scarring.
The last step, of course, is a mask that I will never stop raving about. It’s not for the faint-hearted but if my skin is really throwing a tantrum, this sorts it out in no time. I simply apply this gritty, delicious-smelling mask to my face, give it ten minutes and wash it off. Although it can be a little tingly (be wary, those with sensitive skin) but the results speak for themselves. This is similar to the Dermalogica Superfoliant but takes it to a whole new level. I don’t reach for this a lot as it is quite intense but man, if you can get a hold of this, make sure to try it out.
