We all know I can hardly contain my excitement when there’s a new lip launch, especially when it comes from a budget brand that continues to deliver. So the new L’Oreal Infallible Sexy Balms* caught my attention straight away. They say they give a weightless velvet texture, a tonne of moisture for up to 12 hours and vibrant pigmentation. Well, that sounds pretty good to me.
The packaging is simple and black, with a lid that corresponds to the shade. It’s pretty but in my opinion, it feels a little cheaper than I expect from L’Oreal. And the product comes in a lip crayon format. They’re retractable and have a pointed tip. I really like the shape of the lipstick for quick, easy and pretty precise application. There are eight sheer shades and four bold shades in the range. They smell incredibly sweet, too, which I love. And for L’Oreal, the $14.95 price point is very reasonable!
The formula is very balmy. It feels lightweight and glides on effortlessly but doesn’t really have the lasting power that you’d associate with a lipstick. With the sheer formula, one swipe gives very subtle coverage but they are quite buildable. The bold formula only needs one swipe to delivery serious pigmentation. They also impart a really beautiful gloss onto the lips, I see where they’re going with the ‘sexy balm’ name, so I’ve been wearing them a lot with minimal makeup looks to add a bit of femininity to my makeup.
They feel incredibly moisturising and are quite slippy on the lips throughout the day. The deeper shades in the sheer range and the bold shades leave a nice stain behind but this isn’t really the case with the lighter sheer shades. I personally prefer the sheerer colours. I find the bold, more pigmented colours tend to pick up on any imperfections or dry patches on the lips, which isn’t ideal. Some of the sheerer shades do this as well but it’s less noticeable and easily avoided.
We Wear Pink, Gossip, As If!, Break The Rules, Clueless, Whaaat?, Can’t Sit With Us, Go Pretty Or Go Home
101 We Wear Pink goes on clear but provides a lovely gloss to the lips. 102 Gossip is a light apricot-y shade. 103 As If! has a bit more of a pinky undertone to it. 104 Break The Rules is a deeper peach. 106 Clueless has some purply glitter in it but is essentially a beautiful bright pink, the glitter doesn’t translate to much onto the lips as it does when swatched. 108 Whaaat? has a bit of a strange name but is my favourite in the range – a browny, very wearable nude. 110 Can’t Sit With Us is a fuchsia-raspberry pink. 111 Go Pretty or Go Home is similar to 110 but more on the purple side of things. My favourites from the sheer range are 101 We Wear Pink, 103 As If! and 108 Whaaat?
Wasted, Adventure, Yala Yolo, Never Stop
201 Wasted is a deep, vampy berry shade. 202 Adventure is a bright, vibrant pink. 203 Yala Yolo is a warm-toned red. And 204 Never Stop is a straight-up coral. My favourite bold is 203 Yala Yolo.
A couple of these shades have been living in my handbag since they arrived because they’re perfect for touchups on the go and adding a bit of gloss to revive your makeup throughout the day. And I’m really digging the formula on days when I don’t feel like wearing lipstick and constantly touching up. Overall, I’m really liking them and would definitely recommend trying out the sheer shades. I think the bold shades missed the mark for me, partly because I don’t tend to reach for glossy bold options but also because they can bring out imperfections and dryness on the lips when applied.
If you’re after a long-wearing, high impact colour, maybe skip these ones but if you’re looking for a comfortable, hydrating, glossy formula these could definitely be worth a look!
Have you tried these ones out?
