I’m sure a lot of readers of TBC know that I spend pretty much all of my weekends at work. I’ve worked weekends for years now and although sometimes it can be a little ‘ugh’, normally I don’t mind too much. It means I have more time during the week to get other stuff done. But I tend to love my sleep-in a little more than a fully glam face. So I keep my makeup fresh, minimal and neutral. The idea is that I can apply it all in no time whatsoever while still ensuring it’ll last through a full shift of work. Here’s the makeup I reach for every weekend to have me looking awake.
I normally forget about primer as I’m doing my makeup right after I’ve got my skincare on so my skin is normally hydrated and prepped. I go in with an easy-to-apply base, normally the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser or the Lovely Me:Ex BB Cream. Each of those bases give me beautiful, glowy coverage in no time and stays put all day. It takes no time whatsoever to blend either of these two in with a big, fluffy foundation brush.
The next step is concealing. A very important step for someone like me who never gets enough sleep. Lately, I’ve been reaching for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid in Pink with a teeny bit of the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer over the top. I set that all down with a big fluffy brush and some loose powder, sometimes the RCMA No Color Powder but since my Sephora haul, the Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder has been my go-to. I’ve been loving it. I set the rest of my face quickly with the Savvy CC Powder to ensure it stays in place all day.
I keep things quick and simple with cheek products. I quickly throw a bit of bronzer on the cheekbones and temples to add some definition to my face. Lately, the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer* has been my go-to. A beautiful, pale-friendly shade in a formula that’s very hard to get wrong.
I almost always reach for a simple neutral blush, particularly the Essence Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love or Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed. You can never get that kind of neutral colour wrong and it’s very tricky to overboard with them – perfect for when I’m in a rush.
I always mix it up with what highlighter I reach for, depending on how I’m feeling. It seems only fair when there’s so many to choose from. The Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder in Afterglow has been a favourite lately, however. Super glowy and a stunning shade on my pale skin.
On the eyes, it’s always quick, easy and neutral. Matte shades in the crease and a pop of shimmer on the lid. You can’t go wrong. Again, this step changes around a lot depending on what I’m loving & testing but lately, it’s been the Colourpop Pressed Powder Eyeshadows while I’ve been testing them for my post the other day. A mix of Bel Air and Made To Last in the crease with one of the many stunning shimmery shades all over the lid. A quick blend of everything and I’m instantly looking much more put together.
Brows are the next step and lately, I haven’t been able to put down the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil*. The angled nib is perfect for quickly filling in sparse patches and adding some much-needed shape to my brows. I set this down with a clear brow gel, of course. Normally, it’s a toss up between the NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel* and the Savvy Clear Brow Gel.
And for lashes, I’ve been reaching for the new Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Mascara release. Lots of volume, plenty of length and it holds a curl beautifully all day. Really enjoying this one!
If I’m honest, the fanciest I ever get is a bit of tinted lip balm but normally, it’s just a plain old untinted, moisturising lip balm. At the moment, Burt’s Bees Acai Berry Lip Balm has been sitting on my desk. I have another three scattered around the house and my handbag… It does a great job of keeping my lips moisturised.
Although there seems to be a lot of products involved, I can normally get this routine done in 15 minutes, all while eating a piece of toast.
