It’s no secret that Rimmel lipsticks continue to be my favourite drugstore brand for lip products. Every release knocks it out of the park and finds it’s way into my lipstick drawers. But my favourite formula came into my life early last year, with the Only 1 Lipstick release. I’m still ranting and raving about the formula here on TBC and at any given moment, you can bet that there’s one hanging out in my handbag, waiting to be reapplied. So you can imagine my response when I heard about the Only 1 Matte* range coming to Australia. Same formula, same packaging (but in a matte, bright red) but with a comfortable matte finish. Count me in.
The Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lipstick* formula is quite similar to the previously released Only 1 Lipsticks. They’re moisturising, comfortable, long-wearing and intensely pigmented. The only difference is that these shades have a matte finish, rather than the slightly shiny finish that I’ve come to love in the original formula.
I’ve only had these matte beauties for a couple of days but I can already tell you that I love this formula just as much. They’re an incredibly comfortable matte – totally lightweight on the lips and creamy smooth when applied. When first applied, the formula on some of the deeper shades can ball up a little around the center of the mouth, so it’s worth blotting with a tissue after applying to avoid this. They also wear really well during the day, especially the deeper shades. The range has a fairly extensive nine shades with a heap of beautiful nudes & pinks, a couple of reds, a purple and a brown.
My favourites, of course, are those beautiful nudes – I can tell High Flyer, in particular, is going to be a favourite. But surprisingly, Take The Stage, the bright red, has also captured my attention. There’s something about the matte formula that just makes those deep shades that much more enticing. The whole range performs beautifully, with no letdowns by any of them. One swipe of colour is all your need, really, and I personally love the slanted tip for quick and precise application.
Will you be picking up any of these shades?
