A luxurious lip product, in my opinion, is always worth splurging on. Especially when you find a shade and a formula that works perfectly for you. And it doesn’t seem to get much more luxurious than the Hourglass Girl Lip Stylos*, releasing at Mecca on the 28th of February. There’s a lot to love about these lip products but I’m particularly fond of the message behind the names of the shades, encouraging the concept of recognising the good in others and in yourself – a sentiment I can well and truly get behind.
The formula is any hydrating lip product lover’s dream. Creamy, easy to apply and incredibly comfortable on the lips. I find they feel a little present on the lips, as can be expected by formulas like this but even though the majority of the shades have incredibly high pigment, they never feel too heavy on the lips. They stay creamy on the lips, meaning that they’re not the most long-lasting lipsticks but the packaging is dreamy enough that you’ll look super fancy pulling it out of your handbag to reapply.
The pointed tip is surprisingly easy to use but quickly loses it’s shape. They suit the formula well but if you’re after a precise line you might want to pair them with a lip liner as they do have quite a balmy, emollient formula. They can gather a little around the inside of the lips so be wary of that when applying. I only had problems with the deeper shades when it came to patchy application.
When brands are releasing 100 lipstick shades at a time, it’s easy to forget that it’s not the norm but the 20 shades that Hourglass have brought out well and truly cover all bases. There’s plenty of nudes (awesome for me) as well as some pinks, reds and berries to suit everyone’s tastes. Even within the nudes, there’s plenty of variation. Definitely a couple that are too brown for me but for others, they could be perfect.
Believer, Creator, Explorer & Seeker
Believer is a light caramel nude, Creator is a light feminine pink, Explorer is a pastel peach-orange, Seeker is a similar pink to Creator but a hint darker – one of my favourites.
Peacemaker, Achiever, Influencer & Dreamer
Peacemaker, Achiever & Influencer are all brown nudes. Achiever is the darkest of the three, Peacemaker & Influencer are similar but Peacemaker is a little sheerer. Dreamer is a light, peachy-pink.
Idealist, Futurist, Activist & Inventor
Idealist is another light brown nude, Futurist is similar but a hint deeper and less warm. Activist and Inventor are, unsurprisingly, my most-worn from the range. They’re both beautiful mauves, with Inventor being a little deeper and rosier.
Lover, Innovator, Visionary & Icon
The four reds in the range are all completely gorgeous. Lover is a bright red-orange, Innovator is a classic red, not too orange, not too blue. Visionary is a slightly deeper neutral red with a bit of brown to it. And Icon is a vibrant, blue-toned red.
Leader, Liberator, Protector & Warrior
Leader is a bright, fuchsia pink. Liberator is a rich red-toned berry (I dropped this one before swatching it which is why it looks a little thicker than the others). Protector is a slightly purpler berry. Warrior is a vampy brown-toned plum – a little patchier to apply than the others because of how dark it is.

My favourites from the range include Creator, Seeker, Activist, Inventor, Icon, Leader, & Liberator.
Overall, although I’m not normally one for overly creamy lipsticks, these have quickly become a favourite formula when I want something feminine, natural and comfortable on the lips. I think these will be a bit hit & miss with people, I personally prefer the nudes in a glossy formula like this but everyone has their own preferences. Definitely give them a swatch in store before buying, even try them on the lips to see how they wear first, because I’m sure they won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but for me, a couple of these nude-mauve shades have quickly earned a spot in my lipstick rotation.
