I kept Tuesday’s post simple, just the best of the best when it came to makeup but I thought it was also very important to mention the skincare products that helped my skin improve in leaps and bounds in 2016. With the exception of the occasional breakout, due to the inevitable hormones or a stressful week at uni, my skin was clearer, brighter and much easier to manage in 2016 and although the whole routine deserves a shoutout, these additions from 2016 were the ones that really blew me away.
On no-makeup days, I keep my skincare simple but effective. Each night, if I don’t have to worry about removing makeup, I reach for this slightly acidic gel cleanser to leave my skin feeling fresh, clean but never tight. My skin just can’t seem to get enough of acid exfoliation. Keeping this one as a constant in my routine has lead to smoother skin and a huge reduction in acne scarring on my chin and jaw. My only niggle is that the tube packaging isn’t awesome for the thin formula so I keep mine in a pump bottle to make it a little easier.
I love a cheap and cheerful skincare item but none have impressed me quite as much as this ~$10 oil. I find cleansing oils are the quickest and most effective way to remove my makeup each night and although there are plenty of pricier options that I loved this year, too, I think this has been my favourite of the year. It’s among the most effective in my cleansing oil arsenal but it’s also the cheapest option – it’s no surprise that this will be the one I repurchase.
I’ve gone through two, maybe three, bottles of this spray this year – it’s become a morning & night essential. I’ve been trying to work out what product really got to the bottom of my combination skin problem this year and I reckon this could be the main factor. The Zinc Sulphate has helped to reduce the frequency of breakouts, keep redness at bay and generally soothe my skin when it starts to get irritable. It’s yet another LRP product that’s become a mainstay in my routine.
One of my beauty resolutions for 2017 is to use more face masks, I’ve got a million sitting in my drawers but I never remember to reach for them. This all-rounder was an absolute essential this year, though, getting brought out on regular occasions when my skin started looking congested or grumpy. It’s a mud mask but even when it’s dried, it never feels like it’s draining the moisture from your skin. Instead, it does a great job of getting rid of nasties, leaving my pores looking clearer and my complexion looking brighter.
What were your skincare discoveries in 2016?
