Oh man, I get excited for a bit of a makeup haul. Especially when it’s Makeup Geek. They’ve been bringing out so many incredible new products lately so my wishlist was getting a little out of hand – it was time for a big ol’ order. After adding just about everything to my cart, I managed to get it down to the bits that I just couldn’t miss out on. Everything arrived the other day (after a strange shipping route through Tokyo) and I got very swatch happy. I couldn’t wait to take some pics but I can’t wait to report back soon on all of the new formulas.
Eyeshadows in Bandwagon, Brownie Points, Bake Sale, Pocket Change, Lucky Penny, Legend
Obviously, the main event was bolstering my already gigantic selection of MUG shadows. I picked up a new Medium Z Palette, too, so I could rearrange everything which was exciting in itself for an organisation lover such as myself. The shades I picked up were from the new Fall collection and, of course, beautiful neutral browns.
The matte formulas of the first three, Bandwagon, Brownie Points and Bake Sale, blew me away – super buttery and blended well onto the lid as well. I can tell Bandwagon is going to become an essential for me. Pocket Change & Lucky Penny are both absolutely stunning too – richly pigmented and just as metallic on the lid as they look in the swatch. Legend was my new Foiled Eyeshadow addition – a rich, intense golden bronze. Can’t wait to get an excuse to bring this one out.
The reformulated blushes looked absolutely beautiful, there were a few on my wishlist, but I couldn’t go past Puppy Love. From swatches online, it looked like it’d be similar to my go-to neutral shades, such as Tarte Exposed, so I already knew it’d become a favourite. It’s a stunning rosy nude. It applied really well to the cheeks, too – subtle but easily blendable.
Again, another new release from Makeup Geek that I was SO excited to try. I picked up Lit, a Duochrome peachy-pink-champagne shade, and Luster, what they describe as a rosy tan. When I saw swatches, it reminded me of ABH’s Riviera, so I knew I had to have it. They look beautiful in the pan, but apply much lighter when swatched or applied to the cheeks. I’ve only had a quick play with Luster so far but I am already impressed.
I also wanted to buy one of each of the new lipstick formulas to try them all out but unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the shade ranges – lots of bolds and darker colours – but I managed to find a shade that I liked in each one. Shy is a lovely mauve-y pink, Old Soul is a slightly deeper, more purple shade and Marriage Material is an even darker rose. The swatches I saw online were sort of all over the place so I wasn’t sure what to expect when they arrived but they’re all beautiful shades.
The Iconic Lipstick formula sounds like it comes in two varieties – cream & matte. Shy is one of the cream formulas – easy to apply and comfortable on the lips while still being quite long-wearing, I found. I haven’t tried the other two formulas on the lips but from first impressions, they both seem lovely. The names of the formulas both seem accurate, with the Plush Matte appearing quite mousse-y rather than actually drying down to a full matte.
Doing your makeup is always so much more fun when you’ve got new things to play with, so I look forward to getting posts up about these newbies soon.
