I’m not sure I’ll ever get enough of Smashbox’s products. Time and time again, they deliver awesome formulas, beautiful shades and on-trend new releases. But for whatever reason, they just don’t seem to be getting the same hype that the other brands stocked at Mecca (or in Sephora in the US) experience. I wanted to round up a couple of my favourites from the brand so, if you’re looking to try them out, you know where to start.
Colour correcting was a huge 2016 trend and although I’ve tried a couple of formulas out, there’s something so easy about pencilling on and blending out a little bit of green or peach to reduce redness or brighten the under eyes. I particularly love the green shade in the range. Although it looks quite intense when it’s initially drawn on, it blends out smoothly into the skin and with a hint of concealer over the top, it never looks obvious. The shades simply get their jobs done in a creamy yet effective formula.
This lightweight base continues to be a favourite on days where I need a bit of light coverage and a dewy finish. I love to pull this one out in winter, in particular, when my skin starts looking a little lacklustre. For those that love a no-makeup makeup base, this could be one for you. Smashbox’s whole range of base products looks seriously dreamy – I plan to try out a couple more from the range in 2017…
This newer release from the brand has been experiencing a little more hype than normal. I reckon if you need an excuse to get into the brand – these beautifully curated palettes are it. There’s a palette in the range for everyone’s tastes and the formula is incredible, as it always is with Smashbox. The only exception is the Bold palette which is a little lacklustre on the pigmentation front. I’ve been reaching for the Golden Hour & Ablaze palettes so much since they first arrived. They’re launching in Australia on January 31, so make sure to add them to your wishlist.
I’ve tried out a couple of mascaras from Smashbox but my favourite has to be the X-Rated option. It lengthens and separates beautifully, holds a great curl and never ever smudges – if it makes it into my 2016 favourites, you know it’s a good one. I reach for this one all the time when I want natural-looking lashes with plenty of curl. The wand can pick up a lot of product, but after I wipe the excess of the brush, I find that it’s totally worth the effort.
I’ve been turning into a bit of a liquid lip aficionado lately, with a bunch of formulas filling up my drawers but I haven’t been hearing much about one of my favourite liquid lip launches of 2016. These are just such a pleasure to apply and wear – the applicator comes to a point, making it easy to get a precise line, and the formula wears comfortably all day long with minimal touching up required. I hope these will be launching in the Australian market soon, too.
