Section two of Budget Beauty Week is all about cheek products – the best of the best that can be found in the aisles of your local Priceline. I don’t tend to try out a lot of different cheek products from the drugstore because when I find ones I like, I stick to them and love them forever. But there’s still a few solid favourites in each category that are well worth adding to your wishlist for the upcoming 40% off sale.
I’m always blown away by the high quality and low prices from Essence but these blushes, for me, have got to be my number one fave from the brand. The shade range is simple but covers all of your bases and the formula is no-fuss. For a subtle flush, Adorable is my favourite shade but I also love Autumn Peach.
A pricier drugstore formula, but it’s one that I just keep coming back to. The formula is incredibly pigmented and has a hint of glow to it, which I love. I make sure to use a fluffy brush with just a little bit of product or it can look too intense. I’ve had the shade Racy Rose for years now and always find myself reaching for it.
A newer favourite from Natio, and one for those who are in the market for a glowy, apricot blush. Rosy Glow has segments of pink, apricot, bronze and even a highlight-y shade but mixed together, the shade leaves my skin looks so healthy and happy. I’ve been wearing it a lot as the weather has been warming up.
This time last year, when I wrote up this section of Budget Beauty Week, I had no real recommendations for the bronzer category… now I have two. This one’s just as good as everyone says it is. It’s a struggle to find bronzers that work well on my pale skin but this one leaves my complexion looking bronzed but never orange.
My other drugstore favourite does a similar job – warming up the complexion while never looking out of place or over the top on the skin. I use the shade Light and reckon it’s one of the best bets if you’re a similarly pale-skinned beauty lover who needs a new bronzer in their life.
The drugstore’s bringing out more and more all-in-one kits and I’m definitely on board. This beautiful Rimmel one has blush, bronzer & highlighter all in one and I’m a fan of each shade in the palette. The blush and bronzer are both strong performers but the highlight is a particular favourite of mine. Overall, the set is ideal for travelling or throwing in the makeup bag.
Models Prefer Make Me Blush Palette*
For a cheek kit that’s got a couple of options, this Models Prefer option is a must. Three blushes, a bronzer and a highlight. The formula doesn’t swatch very smoothly, but with a fluffy brush, all of the shades work really well. I particularly love the NARS Orgasm-esque blush and the champagne highlighter.
I’m not huge on contouring, reserving it only for special occasions, so my collection doesn’t have a lot to offer but this three-shade kit remains a favourite. Two contour shades to suit everyone and a subtle, golden highlighter. Perfect for people like me who get a little overwhelmed with those six-shade palettes. The middle shade is perfect for me when I want to sculpt out a little more definition and the darker shade even works as a bronzer if I’m in a pinch.
I’m still waiting for drugstore brands to really embrace the highlighter trend… but my one true recommendation comes from Physicians Formula, again. This one is ideal for lighter skin tones, providing a stunning pearlescent glow to the cheekbones. Not glittery or patchy like a lot of the other formulas from the drugstore that I’ve tried and it looks beautiful in the pan too…
For cream highlighter lovers, or those that want a little bit of extra intensity, the Champagne highlight stick from the newly released Nude by Nature range has me falling in love. I’ve been reaching for it to layer underneath my powder highlighters and the effect is seriously stunning stuff.
Saturday’s post will be a big one – all of my eye recommendations, shadows, brows, liners & lashes.
