When a new, beautiful eyeshadow palette comes to town, I’m always interested. But when one of the biggest beauty personalities in Australia is involved, you can be sure that I’ll be sitting up and taking notice. Chloe Morello’s latest collaboration with Ciaté London – the Ciaté London x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul* – has the whole beauty world going crazy. It sold out in Australian stores after just a couple of days but I’ve been told a restock is on it’s way. Of course, I wanted to get up swatches and my initial thoughts beforehand. Now it’s time to let you know whether it’s worth stalking their website to grab one for yourself.
I decided before it launched that I just couldn’t justify another eyeshadow palette, no matter how many beautiful mattes and neutral shimmers were involved. And even after I swatched it in stores, I resisted temptation. But I was over the moon when Mecca generously sent one through to me to try out. After rigorous testing, I’m so relieved that I haven’t missed out.
First, let’s talk about the Pretty, Fun, Fearless eyeshadow palette – the main attraction. It’s a stunning, all-inclusive array of neutrals, golds and purples. I’m particularly in love with just how many mattes shades there are in the setup.
The matte formula is soft and easy to blend, I’ve been really quite impressed. The shimmer formula feels quite stiff in the pan, so often needs a little building up when swatched with fingers but even more so when applied with a brush. They perform better either when applied with a finger, or with a damp brush – patting the shade onto the lid. I also experience a little bit of fallout with the shimmery shades, but nothing too dramatic.
The first row is full of beautiful matte neutrals – Skinny Dip, Unconditional, On Fire & Queen Bee are all on high rotation plus a copper-gold shimmer shade, Shine Bright. The second row holds a lighter gold, Vaycay, three lighter mattes – My Tribe, Be Sassy & Jet Setter, and a stunning neutral taupe, Happy. The third row has Dainty, a rose gold shimmer that’s become one of my favourite in the palettes, but it’s also where the purples come out – Fierce is an incredible shade but it can quickly lose it’s intensity when blended out too much on the lid. Flirt & Daydream are both beautiful, soft matte shades and Own It is a deep, metallic purple.
My favourite shades in the set are pretty much all of the mattes in the first row, Happy, Dainty & Fierce.
Next in the Beauty Haul is the Mini Liquid Velvet in Pinup – Ciaté’s best-selling shade from their liquid lipstick range. I was expecting a berry colour but on me, this shade looks quite brown and vampy. I’ve come to like it, though, even though it is a little out of my comfort zone. The formula has been a pleasant surprise – comfortable on the lips yet still long-wearing.
Finally, there’s a sample of Ciaté’s Wonderland Mascara. I’ve only worn it out once but so far, I am incredibly impressed. The wand reminded me straight away of Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara and it did a very similar job. Lengthening, separating, volumising and my favourite, holding a curl. I’ll be sure to report back if it continues to impress but so far, so good!
Overall, for the price – this set is pretty great. The only let down for me is the shimmer eyeshadow formula… but even that is easily workable. Everything else in the set has blown me away. The eyeshadow palette would work for pretty much anyone who loves a good neutral, with a bit of adventurous purple. The addition of the liquid lip, the mascara and even the adorable navy pouch makes this set totally worth it. If you’ve been umm-ing and aah-ing about whether you need this set in your life, I’d recommend treating yourself, for sure (as I always do).
