With a lipstick collection like mine, it’s important to keep mixing it up every day, as some sort of justification for your hoarding habits. It’s been over a year now since the last time I documented my week in lipsticks but this week was a particularly good one for old favourites and new additions to the collection.
Sunday – Bobbi Brown Lip Balm*
Sunday’s are spent at work for me and I tend to keep my makeup fairly minimal so instead of a lip colour, I just reached for this beloved lip balm. There’s one in my handbag and one kept by my bed because after a couple of months of use, I refuse to be without it. It’s a favourite overnight because it’s so hydrating but I also love using it during the day because it provides a bit of a pinky tint to the lips. It also smells like marshmallows – that alone should be enough to win you over.
I spent my Monday gettin’ stuff done at home so went for something a little bolder to get me brain into gear and I actually really enjoyed it. So far, I haven’t been too impressed with the Ultra Matte Lip formula from Colourpop but the Ultra Satin Lip has definitely reached my expectations. It dries down comfortably and wore well all day, even through dinner.
The hype for these beauties went a little over my head when they first launched but after receiving this shade the week before I can well and truly say I get it. Lightweight, sheer coverage and an adorable applicator. The shade Bohemian Raspberry is stunning for Spring – the swatch makes it look quite bright but on the lips it’s a subtle wash of colour that I can definitely get on board with. Even when the gloss has died down the formula leaves a bit of a tint behind, too.
Wednesday – Revlon Ultra HD Matte Liquid Lipstick in HD Seduction*
My uni started back for the trimester on Wednesday so my makeup was pretty simple but I went with a simple brown-nude lip. Although it states matte in the name, they don’t really dry down on the lips, but I tend to blot them with a tissue when I apply them to mattify and improve longevity. I find the formula comfortable and pretty much no-fuss, which is always awesome when I don’t have time for major upkeep. The shade Devotion is probably my favourite of the range, though.
Another trip into uni so another relatively subtle lip colour. The new Rimmel Kate Moss Anniversary lipsticks arrived in the mail so obviously, I couldn’t wait to try them out. The packaging is obviously in a league of it’s own – so stunning. Each of the nudes in the range look a little too brown or peachy for my normal tastes but this Rock N Roll Nude shade has a hint of pink that makes it more wearable for me. The formula will be familiar to anyone that’s tried the Lasting Finish Lipsticks in the past – creamy, a little glossy, but it can pick up dry patches on the lips if I’m not careful.
Another quick trip into uni but I had a little more time today to do my makeup on Friday so I went for one of my favourite mauve lipsticks and a hint of gloss over the top. The Buxom Bold Gel Lipstick is another creamy, pigmented godsend (I really have a type with lipsticks) but I wanted a little extra – Colourpop’s gloss formula is pretty standard, as far as I can tell from initial testing, but this Finders Keepers shade is totally up my alley.
L to R: Colourpop Lyin’ King, Lancome Bohemian Raspberry, Revlon Seduction, Rimmel Rock N Roll Nude, Buxom Rebel Rose, Colourpop Finders Keepers.
