My buying habits have changed a lot over the last couple of years – I used to buy a lot of stuff, only to realise months later that it was sitting unloved in the collection, before being passed on to a friend so now, I tend to think more and buy less (I’ve adopted an approach like I’ve mentioned in this post), particularly when it comes to drugstore products.
Every now and again, though, a new product catches my eye while I wander around Priceline. I’m also very lucky to be sent a bunch of awesome stuff for editorial consideration. I’ve been loving reaching for a couple more drugstore pieces every morning and wanted to report in on a couple of the recent standouts.
I can’t say that I’ve tried much from Natio in the past but if this is anything to go off, I’ll be spending more time checking out their stand from now on. The pan design is obviously stunning, made up of bronzes, highlights, peaches and pinks. Mixed together, they create a stunning glowing peachy cheek colour, which is something I can definitely appreciate heading into Spring. I’ve also been using just the highlight part on a smaller brush to highlight the cheekbones – it’s pearly and glowy with none of the chunky glitter aspect that I quite often find in cheaper highlighters on the market.
Finding a bronzer that works on my pale skin is a pretty tricky task but when my friend Nikkia recommended this one to me while we shopped at Priceline, it went straight into my basket. Completely matte, subtle but easily blendable – this has quickly impressed me. The Light shade is warm but not too orange or overpowering on my skin tone and always looks natural blended around the edges of the face.
Another recommendation from Nikkia, another no-brainer. I often find that brow gels either don’t actually get the job done of keeping my brows in place during the day or, alternatively, they feel crunchy, heavy and flakey. This nondescript tube from NYX has really surprised me with its effectiveness while making sure my brows don’t feel crunchy. The wand is rather large, the same size as your standard mascara wand, but I never find myself going overboard with the product.
My latest sheer, comfortable, hydrating revelation from the drugstore comes from Burt’s Bees. I’ve always loved their lip balms – tinted or otherwise – so it was no surprise that they’re slightly more pigmented bigger sisters impressed me too. The shade range is all kinds of stunning and although there’s a whole array of beautiful nude shades, my two favourites would have to be Blush Basin and Lily Lake. View swatches of the full range here.
Another drugstore post, another Models Prefer brush that I’ve fallen in love with. This time it’s a classic buffing brush – similar but a little flatter than the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. I’ve been using it a lot with my slightly thicker foundations over the last couple of weeks and it’s been doing a great job of ensuring the face doesn’t look too heavy or cakey on the skin.
L to R: Natio Blush & Bronze in Rosy Glow, NYX Matte Bronzer in Light,
Burt’s Bees Lipsticks in Blush Basin & Lily Lake.
