On the day-to-day, my skin is fairly well behaved but on the odd occasion (namely on the night before something important) it likes to have a little freakout on my face – redness, spots and texture appear out of nowhere. Most of the time it’s in response to hormonal changes so unfortunately there’s little to be done to stop it happening but I have become pretty good at keeping the temper tantrum to a minimum. I have a bunch of products that have never let me down and always manage to soothe my grumpy skin and make spots disappear.
The biggest tell-tale skin that my skin’s about to have a moment is normally my skin starts to feel icky and congested and spots start to appear around my chin. My very first step is to amp up my Clarisonic usage, taking it from once-a-day in the morning to being used morning and night – making sure that my skin is super clean and healthy. After a one minute cleanse I can already feel my skin feeling a little happier and I find the quicker I can get the rest of my skincare on, the better.
The old faithful product. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the Effaclar Duo+ is my all-rounder to improve texture, moisturise, soothe and also deal with spots. Although I use it each night anyway, when my skin starts getting a little grumpy I switch out my morning moisturiser for another dosage.
Another wonder product for my skin has got to be rosehip oil, although some I’ve tried in the past have been too heavy and congesting on the skin, this bottle from Rosehip Plus that I’ve been using has been working well for me. A sizeable helping of rosehip oil really worked into the skin before I go to sleep works wonders overnight – I wake up the next morning and any spots I have are much calmer and are on their way to healing.
Although it may seem like I load my skin up with skincare when my skin throws a temper tantrum I actually tend to pare down my routine to the bare essentials – most night moisturisers that I use are quite rich so I tend to switch them out for a more lightweight option, this is my recent favourite from L’Occitane. It sinks into the skin really easily so I find that it’s my go-to when my skin is feeling sensitive and irritated.
Of course a face mask is essential when my skin needs a bit of attention and lately this has been the only one that I’ve been using. It’s one of your classic clay masks that dries on the skin but it never leaves my skin feeling tight or dehydrated after washing it off. It really cleans out my complexion and goes to work on spots without causing more irritation.
