When it comes to foundation, it doesn’t get much more hyped up than the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. Makeup artists frequently keep it in their kits and honestly, I haven’t heard a bad word about it. Needless to say I was excited to try it out and I’m happy to say that it hasn’t disappointed.
Applying with a BeautyBlender or with a fluffy brush is effortless. The texture is quite thin and liquidy without compromising on coverage, so it blends out quickly and easily – never streaky. Straight away it looks like skin, rather than sitting on top awkwardly.
What’s amazing about this foundation is how lightweight it is but how much coverage it gives. One layer gives what I’d call medium coverage, slightly less when I apply with a BeautyBlender as that tends to sheer it out a little more. Another layer ups it a little more without looking cakey. The finish is pretty natural, not too glowy and not too matte – again, it looks like skin, but better.
Setting it down with a powder isn’t completely necessary if you have drier skin but I like to, mostly out of habit. My skin hasn’t been quite as oily lately but whatever oil there is in my t-zone is kept under control easily. The foundation wears beautifully all day – each time I wear it I’m surprised with how stunning my base looks even 12 hours into wearing it. I haven’t experienced any problems with it separating around my nose or chin and it never clings to dry patches.
As is normally the case when things like this are sent to me for consideration, the match isn’t perfect. I’ve been wearing the shade 115 = R230 – Ivory and it’s slightly too dark for me. I’m probably a shade or two lighter but considering how huge the shade range is (there’s 40 shades on the US Sephora website but I can only see 15 on the Australian Sephora site), I’d say it’s fairly likely there’d be a spot on match for me. For now, I’ve just been applying it with a drop of The Body Shop’s Lightening Drops.
If you have dry skin, you shouldn’t have any problems with this foundation – it doesn’t pick up on dry patches and gives a nice healthy glow to the skin.
If you have oily skin, you’ll be happy too – it keeps oil at bay for a whole day of wear and looks super natural.
I can definitely see why Sephora Australia are calling this a beauty game changer – now I can well and truly understand what the hype is all about. This has quickly become one of my go-to foundations, it’s a slightly higher coverage than I’d normally go for on a daily basis but I’ll admit I’ve been loving it – especially considering how simple it is to apply flawlessly. It’s a bit pricey, sure, but this beauty is so highly regarded in the industry that I’m not surprised I love it. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, grab a sample and hopefully you can see what I mean…
