When it comes to my makeup hoarding, eyeshadows will always be my downfall. I can normally convince myself nowadays to keep my bank card in my wallet when it comes to new beauty purchases but somehow, in spite of this, my eyeshadow collection continues to grow. The latest addition has been the Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow Duo in The Top Shelf, one that I’ve had my eye on since the very, very early days of my makeup obsession but one that I never got around to purchasing, until reading Katina’s post a little while ago.
The two shades in the palette, Mixologist and Cognac are the perfect match for one another and work together to create a stunning, warm-toned eye look that is simple to execute and flattering on anyone. Mixologist is a bright, shimmering champagne with a slightly gold undertone to it – it’s stunning all over the lid, placed in the inner corner or even used as a cheek highlighter on pale skin (I’ve tried and I’ve succeeded in making it work), Cognac is an incredibly pigmented warm bronze/gold. One swipe is all you see in the swatches below, it’s a buttery shade with a formula that reminds me a lot of the raved about Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows. It can be intensely built up on the lid but I prefer it a little more sheered out – on my pale skin it can look a little too harsh when intensely applied.
I tend to wear the duo with Mixologist all over the lid and Cognac blended out in the outer third of the eye and often reach for a matte brown transition shade in the crease in the day time to tone it down slightly. The sheen in both shades is fairly intense but never results in chunky glitter getting everywhere. They apply with no fall-out and wear beautifully on the lids all day without primer, still looking just as stunning when you take your makeup off at the end of the day. A little goes a long way when applying because they do blend out so neatly so I tend to apply in dabbing motions with a flat brush before blending it out a little further with a fluffier brush.
I’m honestly surprised that more people don’t rave about these shadows because for a relatively affordable price point, they’re some of the most reliable shadows I’ve ever tried. Each time I reach for this duo it knocks my socks off – it’s a particular favourite on those days where my make-up just isn’t working for me because somehow, this always seems to pull everything together.
Have you tried Bare Minerals Eyeshadows before?
