Two Drugstore Brow Kits

Two Drugstore Brow Kits - Maybelline Master Brow Pro Palette & L'Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit - Review - The Beauty CollectionI’m normally more of a brow pencil girl on the day to day but there are some times where I really need the precision of a bit of brow wax and brow powder. The teeny tiny brushes are perfectly to mimic brow hairs with ease and the result is always satisfying. I’ve been trying out two brow kits from the drugstore lately and thought I’d thrown in my two cents.

Maybelline Master Brow Pro Palette* –

The new release to the market, it should be hitting counters in the next couple of weeks in Aus. The palette comes with a brow wax, a brow powder and a browbone highlight powder. The palette also comes with a double ended spoolie and brush. I thought Soft Brown would be a tiny bit dark for me but it’s actually been working fine.

I find the wax in this kit is quite hard to pick up and get onto the brush, I kind of need to dig in before getting any pay off.  The powder is great, however, it applies easily and looks really natural on the brows. The biggest disappointment in this kit though is the highlighter shade which basically comes off on the skin as non-existent unless you really build it up. Although I think the idea behind adding the highlight shade is really awesome and convenient, unfortunately the formula didn’t quite meet my expectations.

L’Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit* –

This kit comes with a brow wax and a brow powder, in a slightly more compact set. There’s a double ended spoolie and brush, like the Maybelline palette, but the addition of the mini tweezers in this set is what I really love (and most of the reason why this made it’s way overseas with me). The Light to Medium kit works really well with my brows, I find.

The wax in this set is much easier to work with and really sets out the shape I want for my brows before I go in with the powder and fill in any bald patches. I find the formula of the powder very similar between the two kits but the wax in the L’Oreal one is just that little bit better, in my eyes.

I find myself reaching for the L’Oreal kit much more than the Maybelline one. If that highlight shade was just a little more pigmented, I think it definitely would’ve swung more in Maybelline’s favour but for me, the L’Oreal kit wins this one. It’s a little bit pricier but especially for beginners, that set of tweezers can really come in handy.

  • Oooh some more ‘drugstore’ brow products! I haven’t used a kit since finishing the FoA one. I was loving the Master Brow pencil from Maybelline but I’m currently reaching for the Chi Chi Brow Pomade more.

  • I just can’t see myself dishing out money for these!! I just run whatever dark brown in whatever palette and set with clear mascara.. I know, it’s lame and not trendy…but it works and its super cheap
