Quick Swatch // Maybelline Color Blur Matte Pencils

Maybelline ColorBlur Matte Pencil Quick Swatch - I Like To Mauve It, Fast & Fuchsia, Pink Insanity, Berry Misbehaving, Orange Ya Glad, Cherry Cherry Bang Bang, Partner In Crimson & Plum PleaseAs you would’ve seen if you follow me on Instagram – L’Oreal and Maybelline are coming out with some stunning products this month so every Monday I’ll be swatching some of the new things you’ll be seeing in the drugstore aisles soon. I’m starting off with the launch that I’m most excited about, the Maybelline ColorBlur Matte Pencils*.

After my success with the Maybelline ColorDrama Lip Pencils, I knew these were going to be good. The product comes in retractable pencil form and simply glides onto the lips. They’re honestly so easy to apply – part of the reason I hardly ever reach for bold lipsticks is because I always apply them messily but it’s not the case with these. Because they’re so soft, they glide on exactly where you want them and are easily fixed up with a cotton bud.

The formula is so lightweight and melts onto the lips, I was simply amazed the first time I tried them. Often matte lip products feel a little drying or heavy on the lips but these somehow feel like you’re wearing nothing while still seriously delivering on the pigmentation and looking matte on the lips. Even after a few hours of wear, they still feel comfortable. They also fade fairly evenly, a must for bolder colours.

The other end of the pencil has a silicone smudger, this is where the blur comes into it. You can wear these pencils intensely all over the lips, use a little less product and smudge it out for a slightly lighter look or even create some seriously awesome ombre effects by mixing the colours.

The shade range is incredible, it really covers all of your bases. Obviously a long-wearing yet comfortable formula is perfect for bolder lip colours. I Like To Mauve It & Berry Misbehaving were the two that first got my attention but I’ve got to say I’ve also been digging the reds, particularly Cherry Cherry Bang Bang. I’ve also been experimenting with using one of the deeper reds in the middle of the lips and getting a little bit ombre-y. Orange Ya Glad definitely looks more true orange in real life than it does in the swatches. Berry Misbehaving is definitely my favourite of the lot, it’s so easy to wear but so bold! Perfect for that New Years resolution of reaching for more adventurous colours…

When these hit the shelves, make sure you get swatching because Maybelline have seriously impressed me with these. Keep an eye out for swatches of the new L’Oreal eyeshadow palettes, Maybelline Creamy Matte lipsticks and L’Oreal Matte FX lipsticks over the coming weeks!

Will you be checking these out when they hit stores?

  • Hopefully they’ll be making an appearance soon! They only just got to Aus so you shouldn’t be far behind 🙂

  • oHH man I’m in love with Berry Misbehaving! These look really nice, for some reason I wasn’t drawn to their colordrama pencils, but I’m drooling over these lol.

  • Oh wow! I love the Color Drama pencils and a matte version with the blur thingy sounds very intriguing.

  • Ohhh what a great post.
Loving this new range – SO PRETTY!!!

  • I was going to say “nah” initially, because the first review I ever read of these (when they were released in the US) wasn’t very favourable, but you’ve got me thinking otherwise! I’m not sure that I would use the silicon end — do you think it might be any good for evening the product out against the edges of your lips?

    • Oh interesting – I’ve heard lots of good things about them from the US! Yeah I don’t use the silicon tip much but it does come in handy for things like that, I like to use it just sort of clean up a little bit 🙂

Waaw, lovely shades,. I want them all 🙂

  • The Sunday Mode

Okay these look seriously pigmented, I feel like I’d love these if I wore bold lips more often but it doesn’t look like there’s many every day shades so not sure how I’ll feel about these once they hit stores…

    • Yeah, the reason I’ve been loving these is because they’re a great no fuss bold lip but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m not always reaching a bold lip. The mauve shade is definitely worth a look though if you want something a little more wearable!

  • I’ve had my eyes on these since they released in America. All the colours are just so pretty and it seems to easy to use with the retractable pencil and all that. I can see why they had the silicone end with the whole ombre lip trend, but I honestly don’t see myself really using it.

Now, WHEN are these going to be released in Asia? 😛 xxxxx

    • The shade range really is incredible and yeah, as useful as the silicone end is, I haven’t been using it too much.

haha I’m sorry I don’t know an exact date but hopefully Asia isn’t far behind Australia!

      • Haha, I tweeted Maybelline a while back asking them if they’d release in Asia but they said they didn’t have a date yet. Either they’re going to be mean and not release the line here OR they’re keeping it secret. I pray for the latter 😛 xxxx

        • I’ve got my fingers crossed for the latter too – they seem so successful elsewhere, it would be silly if they didn’t bother releasing them in such a huge market as Asia!

  • Love a quick swatch ahhah! Yours are always so good ! I tried to do a photo of them all in a line too with the lids off but gurl dem shadows killed me hahaha x

  • Ah here it is! Plenty of new releases coming to TBC this month! 🙂 Definitely head in and have a swatch and pick one or two favourites, I’ll admit it will be hard! haha

  • Oooh these look great! I cannot wait to try them out 🙂 I Like To Mauve It seems like a fab everyday shade, but those reds/oranges… gorgeous!
