The final instalment of January’s quick swatch series is all about one of the most interesting new lip launches that I’ve seen yet. The L’Oreal Infallible Matte FX Lip Colours* are definitely not your average lipstick.
The product is actually a powder, which, when applied to the lips, provides intense colour but with none of the heaviness of a lipstick. When I first swatched them I was amazed with just how lightweight the formula was. The product comes on a sponge, spring loaded into the tube which has the pigment packed in. The sponge is surprisingly easy to apply with, actually. The idea of the sponge tip is so you can control how intensely you apply your lipstick, you can apply it lightly or really build up the colour.
When applying, I find that both the powder formula and the application method make any dry patches or flakes on my lips look quite noticeable. I’d definitely recommend prepping your lips well before having a play with these. They take a little bit of going over when applying to really build it up if you want intense colour but it definitely does get there. I find that the finish they leave is more of a stain rather than a creamy, super opaque finish that you’d find with a regular lipstick but that means that it’s super comfortable and almost feels like you’re wearing nothing on the lips. I actually forget I’m wearing lip colour when I wear them. They wear well but do tend to get a little drying after a colour of hours so I like to dab a bit of lip balm over the top.
L to R: Silencio, Virgin, Oops I Pink It Again, Disturbia, Say My Name, I Gotta Feeling.
Every shade in the range is beautiful, with my obvious favourites being Virgin and Oops I Pink It Again. Virgin looks so brightening and girly on my pale skin and Oops I Pink It Again is such a lovely, deep pink. I wish that I had the guts to wear I Gotta Feeling because it is so stunning. One day, one day. Say My Name and Oops I Pink It Again are the easiest to work with, I find, when it comes to building up the colour.
I’m really impressed with L’Oreal for bringing out such a new and innovative product at such a budget pricepoint – I’ve really been enjoying these beauties (when I’ve taken the time to prep my lips well) so I definitely think they’re worth checking out when you see them in stores. I hope you’ve enjoyed all of these quick swatch posts over January – so many beautiful new releases!
