Another round of mascaras have been tried and tested so I’m back again with another instalment of Mascaras on Rotation, where I take you through my stash and let know which ones worked and which ones didn’t.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara –
As this one has been drying out a little more, I’ve been even more in love with it. I said in the last Mascaras on Rotation post that this one had good days and bad days but now, it’s just perfection every time I reach for it. It holds a curl surprisingly well for the non-waterproof formula and I find that the wand provides a great amount of volume and length to my short, blonde lashes.
NARS Audacious Mascara –
The wand looks so intimidating, especially on this sample size that I’m using at the moment. Because it’s so big, I struggle to really get down to the base of the lashes because I’m wary of getting myself in the eye. I have good days and bad days with this one but it definitely hasn’t amazed me – it tends to look a little messy and clumpy if I’m not really careful to wipe off the excess and really wiggle the brush as I apply.
Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara –
I’ve definitely been holding onto this little sample size for beyond the recommended use by date but it’s just so good! As I mentioned in my 2015 Favourites, this mascara does everything that I want and more. Volume, length, holding a curl – it’s got everything. This will definitely be repurchased soon…
Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof Mascara –
No surprises. Considering it’s been in every single one of these round ups. It’s the perfect natural, everyday mascara that holds a beautiful curl and doesn’t budge but I also love using it on the lower lashes to really define.
Rimmel Super Curler Mascara* –
I’ve really been loving this one on natural makeup days, it sort of holds a curl well and provides a little bit of length but it doesn’t do much for volume so it’s really great for days where I just want a bit of definition without looking too over the top.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara –
Newly released Maybelline mascaras always manage to get my attention and this sounded like a particularly awesome one. The brush reminds me a lot of the Benefit Roller Lash and unfortunately it has the same excess-product-on-the-brush problems but after wiping away the excess, I fall in love with what this does with my lashes. It holds a curl, it lengthens, it volumises – I’ve been super impressed. I can’t wait to try out the waterproof version to see how it goes.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara –
I’d heard so many good things about this mascara and I’ve got to say, I’m quite a fan. It does manage to hold a curl quite well, as it claims, and it does separate really well. The brush can pick up quite a bit of excess product so I’m always careful to give it a wipe before getting anywhere near my lashes but after sorting that out, I’m left quite impressed. It’s not my favourite because it doesn’t add quite as much length as I’d like but for volume and curl, this one’s a good option.
Designer Brands Beyond Amplifying Mascara* –
As soon as I saw the thin, plastic wand on this one I knew it would do an awesome job of really separating and lengthening my lashes. I wasn’t wrong. It does a great job of coating all of the lashes but doesn’t provide a lot of volume. I’ve also noticed that this mascara takes a strangely long amount of time to dry. I think if this did a better job of holding a curl, I’d really love this mascara. I haven’t been trying it for too long so hopefully it gets a little better as the formula dries out.
Thin Lizzy All Day Flexi Mascara* –
The wand doesn’t pick up a lot of product so that means that it does a great job of separating the lashes and really coating all of the lashes in black. One coat gives me natural looking lashes with not a lot of volume, two coats adds a bit more but it’s still a fairly natural, every day mascara. Personally, not for me, but for those of you after a very simple, barely there look, it could be worth a try.
The winners for this round? Too Faced Better Than Sex, Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara and Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara. Now let’s see which mascaras I can try out next…
