It’s taken me a while to find products that really work on my under eye area. There are some days where I really struggle with creasing, cakiness or dark circles but thankfully, I’ve got a few steps that I put in place on those days to make sure everything looks flawless. I know a lot of other people struggle with the same issues so I thought I’d round up my favourite products that help me out.
Priming & Brightening
If the problem behind your creasing under the eyes stems from dryness or flakiness then this one is for you. After patting a bit of this hydrating, cooling gel under the eyes (it even works fairly well over foundation) any product layered over the top instantly works a lot better. It also has a subtle brightening effect which is always welcome. It’s essentially just a lightweight, slightly pearlescent eye cream which is actually perfect for layering with makeup – not something I often come across.
This one’s a more recent love of mine. I hadn’t tried many correctors before but something about this offering from Becca sounded too awesome to miss. Since it arrived, I’ve barely gone a day without it. It’s a lightweight yet super pigmented salmon/peach shade that counteracts any dark circles under the eyes while priming and perfecting the under eye area. Since adding this to my routine, I’ve noticed that anything I apply over the top works just that little bit better. My under eyes have never looked brighter and more alive.
If you’re really into bright under eyes, this tube of magic from Bare Minerals is well worth a look. It doesn’t have a lot of coverage to it but when applied underneath the concealer, it adds just that little extra oomph that can make you look like you had just a few extra hours of sleep. The shade is a light salmon pink, doing a little bit to correct darkness too.
One of the first products that really made a difference under the eyes. A little bit goes a long way with this one, too much and it starts to look a little cakey on it’s own. When I really need great coverage this is what I reach for. It also lives up to it’s name when it comes to longevity.
One of my long-time favourites has been this lightweight, brightening wonder product. It’s so thin that there’s no chance of it going cakey but it still manages to cover up my dark circles on days when I’m a little sleep deprived. It’s definitely one of my favourite drugstore options for under the eyes.
This creamy concealer has been a quiet achiever in the ranks for quite some time now. I always forget about it and then pull it back out and fall in love all over again. The creamy consistency melts into the skin effortless but provides a great amount of coverage. I also find this one’s awesome for really angry spots, completely covering redness. I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting much from this UK brand but I’ve been really pleasantly surprised.
A newbie from the drugstore that’s really been impressing me. It’s so comfortable on the under-eyes – lightweight, with quite a thin formula. Although it’s not the most intense coverage, I find it’s more than enough for me on a daily basis.
The concealer that made it into my 2015 favourites, it’s awesome stuff. I love swiping this on and dabbing it in with a damp Beauty Blender for a seriously brightened effect. I’m honestly worried about running out of the stuff because, particularly for nights out, this is my go-to to really brighten up the under eyes while covering any discolouration.
My ultimate weapon in the battle against creasing under the eyes. I hardly ever reach for anything else to set down my under eyes anymore. This stuff is like magic – turning skin into flawlessness. No creasing, no cakiness – just perfectly set under eyes that stay in place all day.
I’ll admit there are a lot of products here but that’s the life of a beauty writer – must try everything! I like to mix and match depending on how I feel – if my skin feels dry I amp up the hydration, if I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep the night before, it’s all about brightening. It all depends on what you want your under eye concealer to do for you.
