It would seem that I just can’t get enough of Makeup Geek shadows, they’re killing it with the new releases lately (those duochromes, oh my they are beautiful) and my Z palettes are getting very full… so I think it’s time for an updated swatch post.
First Row –
Shimma Shimma – this metallic champagne will always remain a favourite, particularly for inner corner and brow bone highlighting.
Vanilla Bean – a light shimmer with a peachy beige undertone that looks fairly underwhelming in the swatch but definitely serves it’s purpose in my collection.
Beaches & Cream – this is my favourite all over the lid shade to start a look off, described by MUG as a matte neutral beige with a hint of peach.
Peach Smoothie – a very popular shade in the range, a little peachier than Beaches & Cream.
Bleached Blonde – beautiful shimmery pale gold that’s a little more subtle than the other golds in the collection.
Karma (Duochrome) – a golden based duochrome shade with yellow-green reflects that didn’t fit in my smaller z palette with my other duochromes. Seriously beautiful.
Gold Digger – another gold with a bit more of a bronze tone to it, much warmer than Bleached Blonde.
Second Row –
Hipster – described as a dark sand-light taupe, a touch warmer than my fave which is coming up next…
Barcelona Beach – my most used shade from the MUG range, my perfect crease shade – a matte medium sand.
Latte – a little darker and warmer than Hipster but just as lovely, more of a medium brown.
Taupe Notch – simply described as taupe by MUG, a darker, cooler toned shade with a bit of a sheen.
Homecoming – similar to Taupe Notch in it’s taupe-iness but this one has more of a golden shimmer.
Pretentious – metallic bronze, much warmer than the others in the row.
Glamorous – an even deeper shimmering gold than Gold Digger in the row above.
Third Row –
Cosmopolitan – rose gold with flecks of gold, such a gorgeous warm shade.
Goddess – deeper than Cosmopolitan and without the specks of gold.
Roulette – described by MUG as a rosy, burnt sienna, I seriously can’t get enough of this shade – definitely one of the best formulas in the original shadow line.
Country Girl – a pink-toned brown, this one’s a little harder to work with when it comes to pigmentation.
Brown Sugar – the perfect deep, shimmering warm-toned brown – this looks beautiful all over the lid.
Cocoa Bear – another cult favourite, similar to Brown Sugar but a creamy matte formula.
Moon Dust – a silvery-greyish taupe.
Fourth Row –
Petal Pusher – one of the newly launched mattes and a new favourite for in the crease – pulling a little mauve and a little brown on me.
Twilight – a light purple, super subtle but super lovely all over the lid.
Cherry Cola – my other pick from the newly reformulated matte range – a brown with very strong red/purple undertones. This one can be a little patchy, too, if you’re not careful.
Smaller Palette –
Starry Eyed (Foiled) – a really light golden champagne, with the same beautiful creamy formula as all of the Foiled shadows.
In The Spotlight (Foiled) – a little warmer in tone than Starry Eyed and one of my most used, perfect for the center of the lid or in the inner corner.
Magic Act (Foiled) – more of a yellow gold than the previous two.
Grandstand (Foiled) – sometimes it’s a rose gold, sometimes it’s a deeper rosy brown – either way it’s one of my all time faves from MUG.
Mesmerised (Foiled) – a deeper taupe shade that, again, looks beautiful all over the lid.
Showtime (Foiled) – a very red-toned brown with a little bit of silver glitter.
Havoc (Duochrome) – like MAC’s Blue Brown pigment in beautiful, pressed shadow form.
Secret Garden (Duochrome) – the most beautiful bright green-teal with a dark brown base – completely out of my comfort zone but I’m excited to give it a try.
Blacklight (Duochrome) – I can’t get enough of this one – purple base with an icy blue reflect. I wore this all over the lids a few days ago and couldn’t stop admiring my lids.
Afterglow – a soft shimmering champagne gold.
Nightlife – a rosy brown taupe.
Sugar Rush – I kind of died a little bit when I swatched this one – it’s blue, it’s purple, it’s a little bit green but it is all kinds of beautiful. You can’t see the complexity in the swatch but trust me – you need it.
As you can see, my collection is extensive but, in my opinion, totally worth every penny. I reach for my MUG palettes so regularly because they just never let me down.
My recommendations to those wanting to splurge on some newbies? Shimma Shimma, Barcelona Beach, Homecoming, Roulette, Cocoa Bear, In The Spotlight (Foiled), Grandstand (Foiled) and basically all of the Duochromes. They’re beautiful.
