The Best Fuss Free Bases

Fuss Free Bases - Palmers CC Cream, NARS Tinted Moisturiser, Smashbox BB Water, Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, Revlon Instafix Makeup - The Beauty Collection
When it comes to bases, there’s nothing better than those ones that you can throw on and go. Sure, I love sitting down and having a few minutes to do my makeup but on those days where I’m running late or just don’t have the patience I have a few bases that I always come back to. Fuss free and super handy on those days where I just have to run out of the door.

Palmers CC Cream* –

On those days where I’m going out to run some errands and can’t be bothered with a full face of makeup, all it takes is a squeeze of this and a quick once over with my fingers to even out my complexion and make me look a little less red. It’s not huge on the pigmentation front but it just adds a little something extra to my skin.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser –

The original favourite for me when it comes to fuss free bases. This one’s super lightweight so, again, a quick going over with my fingers is enough to blend this in seamlessly. The formula is thin but still manages to leave my skin looking even and much less red, it even covers any little imperfections I might have around the place.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water –

By far the most interesting base in my drawers and one that I’ve definitely been reaching for more and more lately. This stuff literally does feel like water, it’s super easy and oddly refreshing to apply (I either go in with my fingers or with my Louise Young LY34 Brush). It leaves my skin feeling glowy and a little more covered. I also love using this one as a bit of a primer and then going over any areas that need a little more coverage with a heavier foundation.
(I’ve given this one a more thorough review here)

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue –

If I had to pick a favourite of the bunch, I think this one might be it. It’s slightly thicker than the others on the list but when paired with my LY34 brush, it works miracles. For something that feels so comfortable on the skin, it’s amazing how much it manages to cover and it lasts so well all day long – I’m always surprised by how flawless my base looks even at the end of the day.

Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Foundation –

Now this one’s in the mix for slightly different reasons – it’s the application of this one that’s so no fuss. All that’s required is a few stripes on the forehead, cheeks and chin and a few seconds to blend either with your fingers or my preferred method, a Beauty Blender, for a really great coverage that wears well all day long. I was surprised by how lightweight this was, being more familiar with those heavy formulas that normally come in stick form.

For any beauty lover, a foolproof and fuss free base is a necessity, and I think it’s fair to say I’ve got more than enough to last me a little while…

  • I’m absolutely in love with the NARS Tinted Moisturiser! I’ve had it for the past year and a half and still can’t seem to get enough of it. I’m very intrigued by the Bare Minerals offering though, especially since you say that it’s your favourite of the bunch! xxxx

    • I always forgot about the NARS TM and then fall back in love when I reach for it again! The Bare Minerals one is GREAT!

  • The Sunday Mode

I love the sound of the Nars tinted moisturiser and a base that I can just throw on. Sadly with good ol hyper pigmentation I usually spend the most time on my base with something a little more full coverage and then I slap everything else on and go.

    • Ah yeah totally get those days where I need more time to get some coverage on my skin to hide the imperfections!

  • Great seeing the Palmers CC cream getting a mention. I tried a sample of it a while ago and really liked it. I still like the Maybelline BB cream for oily skin for those quick face days.

  • The Nars one sounds good!! My skins getting a lot better so I’ve been thinking of opting for something more lightweight to cover redness 🙂 x

I actually haven’t tried any of the other bases but the BareMinerals one I love so much I’ve got a back up! I almost never repurchase foundation/bases and for me to buy one before this is finished (it’s halfway though) certainly says something

  • I haven’t tried any of these before but I’m seriously intrigued by the Smashbox BB Water, it sounds perfect for lazy days with this warm Spring weather we are having in Melbourne 🙂

    • It’s actually really great, don’t know if it’s available in Aus yet but worth a look when it launches!
