I seem to have a thing for drugstore lip glosses. I have two whole draws devoted to them in my lip product set up and I always find myself reaching for them when I need something quick and easy but I’ve noticed that I have three favourite formulas…
The Covergirl Colourlicious Lip Glosses are a relatively new addition to the Covergirl range. They’re super shiny, non-sticky and the shade range is a dream particularly for those that love a nude gloss. They’re a little sheerer than the others I’m going to mention but perfect for that subtle wash of colour on the lips. They’re comfortable and last really well, particularly with the brighter colours.
The shade Berrylicious is one of my most reached for glosses of all time, I think because it’s so easy to throw on. It’s more mauve-y than it’s showing up in the swatch. Melted Toffee is a gorgeous warm nude and Whipped Berry* is the perfect sheer, bright pink.
L’Oreal has a few different glosses in their range but my favourite is the L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire range. These guys pack a serious punch when it comes to pigment. So much so that L’Oreal actually markets them as a liquid lipstick. They feel really silky and smooth on the lips and also do a great job in the shine department. There’s a bit of an oily feel to them on the lips but not in a gross way, just in a hydrating kind of way.
Molto Mauve seems to be a popular one from the range, it’s always sold out at my local stores and I can understand why – it’s the perfect mauve-y nude that I’ve been in love with lately. Rose Finale is a gorgeous bright pink and Nude Ballet is the gloss that Kim K wore on her wedding day – sold yet?
My absolute favourite glosses of the bunch are the Maybelline Colour Elixirs. I’m not even sure how many times I’ve mentioned my love for these guys and as you can see, I’ve got about half of the shades of the range in my collection. When it comes to the perfect gloss – this has got to be fairly close. They’re non-sticky, super glossy, feel comfortable and hydrating on the lips and, again, they bring it in the pigmentation department. They’ve got the same kind of almost oily feeling that the L’Oreal ones have but they feel a little more nourishing. They are, actually, really similar to the L’Oreal ones but they’re slightly cheaper and just a little more comfortable.
Caramel Infused and Rose Redefined are by far my most used glosses ever. Celestial Coral and Breathtaking Apricot aren’t available in Australia but are both a little bit peachy, hopefully they make it to our shores eventually. Vibrant Mandarin and Signature Scarlet don’t get as much use as the others because they’re much bolder but if I ever want a bold lip with a bit of gloss, these are what they go for. After I took these pics I even went out and bought another shade, Mauve Mystique. You could say that I’m well and truly smitten with these ones.
Three of the best glosses from the drugstore, in my opinion. All with awesome shade ranges and all regularly on sale so you can grab a great deal.
What’s your favourite drugstore lip gloss?
