Five Brushes I Use Every Day (The Base Edition)

Five Brushes I Use Every Day - Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Real Techniques Setting Brush, Models Prefer Powder and Bronzer Brush, Mecca Cosmetica Blush Brush and Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Face BrushI’ll be the first to admit that I have too many makeup brushes lying around and I’m maybe a little more embarrassed to admit that on a daily basis, most of them go untouched. I always gravitate towards the same brushes as they’re tried and true and get the job done every time. Here are five of my favourites.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush – This little gem from the RT Core Collection has been my go-to for such a long time. It just does such a great job of buffing in foundation so that it looks natural and skin-like. Even if I do use another brush to apply foundation I find myself picking this up and giving my face a once over to make sure everything is looking flawless. If I could recommend one RT brush to anyone, this would be it, if they wore liquid foundation.

Real Techniques Setting Brush – A new love of mine, as I mentioned a while ago. It’s perfect for blending out concealer under the eye or even just over blemishes. I blend everything out with this then pat over it with my finger and find it works wonders.

Models Prefer 104 Powder & Bronzer Brush – I bought this brush without really thinking about what I’d use it for but I’m now very glad to own it. The tapered end means it’s perfect for applying powder, specifically my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, each day. I find that it can look a little cakey if applied too heavily so this lighter brush is perfect for the task. It also works really well with loose powders as it’s so big and fluffy.

Mecca Cosmetica Blush Brush – I’ve dedicated a whole post to this before. I mentioned that it was the perfect shape and blended in product beautifully but had a tendency to shed. Well, now I’ve given it a fair few washes and the shedding has subsided so I’m simply left with a REALLY good blush brush. I have so many brushes that do the same exact job but I reach for this one every single day because it works so well!

Real Techniques Duo-Fiber Face Brush – I actually have two of these brushes (from different sets) and use them for both for very different things but that’s a story for another time. This RT brush made the cut because it’s basically all I use to apply bronzer. The not too dense bristles make it perfect for picking up and diffusing colour so I don’t look like I’ve drawn awkward diagonal lines down my cheekbones. It does the job so well every single time that I struggle to think of what I was using before I had this one.

Every day, without fail, you’ll find these lying on my make-up table, especially on those days where I don’t have the time or patience to experiment. I’ll be sure to drop back in with my everyday eye brushes as we all know that’s a whole other ball game…
