Models Prefer Soft Touch Powder – Soft Focus

Models Prefer Soft Touch Mineral Powder in Soft Focus Review and SwatchThe Models Prefer range always manages to surprise me and a while ago I came across these Models Prefer Soft Touch Powders while doing my regular haul-y thing in my local Priceline and thought they looked suspiciously similar to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. I couldn’t resist picking one up in the shade Soft Focus and trying it out that was back in November so I think it’s well and truly time to weigh in.

The packaging reminds me a lot of old school MAC Mineralise Skin Finishes but perhaps a little flimsier. Nevertheless, it’s simple but practical and suits the purpose well. When you open the lid you’ve got a gorgeous looking baked powder – I chose Soft Focus because it looked like it work pretty well with my skintone.

I was expecting these powders to work sort of like the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders – lightweight, throw-it-on finishing powders that make you look glowy and gorgeous. I definitely was not wrong. I’ve found myself reaching for this baby lots since picking it up for when I want to make things look a little less shiny and a little more glowy. Yes, somehow there is a difference… It doesn’t do a huge amount for keeping oil at bay so if I’m feeling oily I’ll make sure to set my t-zone before going in with this but when it comes to going that extra mile to make my skin look nice this has been a great option to have. I also can build this up dramatically for a cheek highlight, two in one products are alright with me!

The powder feels really lovely and soft on the skin and blends in seamlessly, I’ve found so there’s definitely no skimping on quality here even for a drugstore brand. Compared to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders I’d say this is perhaps a bit more of an intense option, as you can see in the swatch below, although that is rather built up. If you use a fluffy brush all over then it’s definitely not this intense. The Hourglass ones are super subtle so could be better for you if you’ve already got quite oily skin but if you really want to dial up the glow factor if you have drier skin then the Models Prefer one can definitely provide what you need.

I don’t necessarily have a preference between the two and I’m glad I have both of them in my stash but if you’re saving the pennies then definitely don’t be afraid to pick up the Models Prefer Soft Touch Powder. It’s a seriously great product in it’s own right! I’m tempted to pick up a few more shades from the range myself…

  • Ohhhhhhhh prettyyy !!! x

  • I’ve been so very tempted by these! I never splurged on the HG ones because I read that they didn’t really fare that well on oilier skin. I may have to give this one a go as a finishing powder because I do love a bit of a glowy look now and again! I love that they have a bronzey shade as well 🙂

    • Yeah, they’re definitely not going to do a lot for oily skin but paired with a mattifying powder they sure look lovely! I’m definitely very keen on that bronze-y shade…

  • Tempting . . . have been drooling over the Hourglass ones for some time with budget restraints but can definitely pick up a MP with chump change!

    • They’re on sale at the moment at Priceline if you’re quick! Definitely worth trying out if you’re not wanting to splurge on the Hourglass ones (I don’t blame you at all – I’m still wondering if they’re worth the price!)
