I love sleep. I love it a lot. But recently I haven’t been getting too much of it and my body is responding with a good dose of spotty skin and dark circles, that’ll teach me. Spots I can deal with (although if you have any heavy duty concealer recommendations for me leave them in the comments below) but the dark circles seriously make such a difference to my face so I tend to spend a bit of time every morning counteracting their tendency to make me look like a zombie. Here are my top tips to looking like I got my required 8 hours of sleep, every single time.
Any help that I can get in the brightness department is definitely appreciated so after getting down to business with my normal eye cream I start out by dabbing a bit of the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer, a product that I’ve sung the praises of before, on the whole under eye area. Not only does it gives a quick and easy dose of brightening it also makes everything sit on the skin a little better. Next I go in with a good, creamy concealer to correct the blue-iness. My favourite for this task is the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20 at the moment, as you might’ve guessed from this post, but I’ve fallen back in love with NARS Creamy Concealer lately after picking it up in Chantilly, which is much more suitable for my skin tone. It’s a bit thicker than the MAC one and takes a bit of extra warming up and blending but it works just as well in the end. For days when I need something a little more heavy duty I reach for the Seventeen Phwoarr Paint, it seriously covers anything and everything.
Now all of the blue is gone I get back in there and brighten things up with a bit of highlighting à la Kim K, well, not really, I just use the trusty triangle trick to add a bit more light to my face. My favourite product for this step is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in the Brightener shade but, of course, Maybelline has decided to discontinue it in Australia. I. Am. Devastated. And although I’ve stocked up on backups upon backups of my favourite I also picked up the Bare Minerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener in the shade Luminous 1 and on first impressions I’m liking it quite a lot. The last little step to this routine is to set it all with powder to make sure it’s still around by the time I get home that night. The BareMinerals Well Rested For Eyes is my pick for this step, even though I think it’s originally meant to be used alone to brighten things up. I didn’t find it too effective on it’s own but hey, I’m still getting use out of it this way.
Hopefully by this stage I’m always looking a little more ready to face the day, in fact I just did this little routine to my no-makeup face and gave my eyelashes a bit of a curl and it made SUCH a difference, almost as if I wasn’t up until 2:00am last night watching Leonardo DiCaprio movies… whoops!
What’s your step in your make-up routine that makes the biggest difference? What are your favourite under-eye concealers?
